Poker is a card game of chance that involves betting between players. The player with the highest ranked hand wins the “pot” – all the chips that have been bet during that particular betting interval. A player may also win by continuing to bet that their hand is the best until all other players drop out of the hand.

If a player wants to raise the amount of money they put into the pot, they can say “raise.” The other players then decide whether to call the new bet or fold their cards. If they want to fold, they say “fold.”

There are several ways to make a game of poker more interesting and dramatic:

The most important thing is to focus on the characters and their reactions. Describe how the different players react to each other as they play – how they flinch when someone is bluffing, how they smile at their own cleverness, etc. This way the reader will have something to connect with and care about. It will make them care about the outcome and feel as if they are in the room with the other players.
